Harassment

Harassment can come in many forms.  It can, for instance, be physical acts such as intimidation or stalking as well as unwanted contact online on social media, via phone calls, letters or other messages.  This conduct can be unpleasant, distressing and frightening for the recipient. Such harassment can also be coupled with other claims, such as defamation which will need considering.

Harassment is both civil matter and a criminal offence by virtue of the Protection from Harassment Act 1997. It is, therefore, a very serious issue which must be dealt with swiftly and decisively.

How can we help you?

Our team of specialist lawyers have combined decades of experience in dealing with and advising in respect of harassment related issues.  We will take the time to understand your situation and to advise you on your particular circumstances.  We will then advise you on how to proceed.  We would usually seek to avoid legal proceedings but, unfortunately, in matters of harassment this is not always going to be possible.  If proceedings do prove necessary, we will support you through that process.  A claim for harassment is often brought to recover compensation for any injury or distress caused to the victim and / or may result in in the court granting an injunction which prohibits further harassment or unwanted conduct.

There is often a need in such claims of Harassment to take decisive action to obtain the injunctive relief as soon as possible.  Breaching an injunction can result in the defaulting party being held to be in contempt of court which comes with serious consequences including, but not limited to, fines or imprisonment.  It is, therefore, an order that comes with serious consequences.
