Markedly Shorter Leg After Surgery – Likely Prospect of Hip Replacement in Future

The claimant, who is a minor, attended the defendant hospital complaining of pains in his hip. An x-ray was taken and reported as normal.

The claimant continued to complain and he was referred back to the defendant hospital to be seen by an orthopaedic surgeon, who noted that there was evidence of a slipped femoral epiphysis.

The claimant underwent immediate surgery, but despite this has been left with a markedly shorter leg and the likely prospect of a hip replacement in the future. He will also be handicapped in the job market. The matter settled successfully for the claimant.
