The British Association of Sport Rehabilitators (BASRaT), the regulatory and professional body for sport rehabilitators in the UK, has appointed Nockolds Resolution to deliver a new mediation service as part of its Fitness to Practice (FtP) framework.

The mediation service will provide an early, proportionate and resolution-focused route for appropriate concerns to be explored and, where possible, resolved outside of formal FtP proceedings. The service will be delivered by Nockolds Resolution, which has extensive experience providing independent mediation services across healthcare and professional regulation.

Under the new arrangements, BASRaT will be able to refer suitable concerns for mediation at an early stage, or as part of its FtP process, where mediation is considered appropriate and beneficial. Participation in mediation will be voluntary and confidential, and any matters that are not resolved through mediation will continue through BASRaT’s established FtP procedures.

Oliver Coburn, Registrar at BASRaT, said:

“Introducing media􀆟on into our Fitness to Practise framework supports BASRaT’s commitment to propor􀆟onate, fair and effective regulation. Mediation provides an opportunity to explore concerns construc􀆟vely, focusing on communication, understanding, and resolution where appropriate. We are pleased to be working with Nockolds ADR, whose experience in healthcare and professional regulation gives us confidence that this service will operate to a high standard and in the public interest.”

The mediation service will be delivered independently by Nockolds ADR and will be free to complainants.
Jennie Jones, Head of Nockolds Resolution, said:

We are delighted to be supporting BASRaT with the introduction of mediation into its Fitness to Practise processes. Mediation can play an important role in helping regulators respond to concerns in a way that is fair, compassionate and resolution-focused, while maintaining public confidence and professional standards. Our role is to provide an impartial and robust process that supports both complainants and registrants and complements BASRaT’s wider regulatory framework.”

The launch of the mediation service reflects a growing focus across healthcare and professional regulation on early resolution, learning and proportionate regulatory responses, while continuing to safeguard the public.
