Celebrating a Remarkable Career: Peter King’s Retirement After 37 Years Service

After 37 years of dedicated service, Peter King, one of the longest-standing members of Nockolds is retiring from the Firm. It is a bittersweet moment as we celebrate Peter’s incredible contributions while also reflecting on just how far our firm has come during his tenure.

Peter joined Nockolds in 1988 when the firm was a much smaller team of fewer than 40 staff members. During his time with the firm, Peter played a pivotal role in growing the firm’s Wills and Probate team — not just through his legal expertise, but also as a mentor and trusted advisor to many. The team, currently led by Sarah Lockyer and Oliver Budino, is now one of the largest Wills and Probate departments in the area.

Darren Hayward, Managing Partner commented “Peter has played an instrumental role not only in developing and growing the Wills and Probate Team but in his overall contribution to Nockolds as a firm. Peter has always been an extremely respected and well-regarded lawyer not only by the hundreds of clients he has acted for but also by his colleagues and across the legal profession as a whole. Nockolds has been truly fortunate to have had him serving his distinguished career with the firm and Nockolds will always owe him a huge debt of gratitude”.

As Peter steps into his retirement, this is also an opportunity to look back at how much the firm has grown and developed. From a modest practice, Nockolds has evolved into a dynamic, award winning international firm  with a diverse team of over 185 professionals, offering a full suite of legal services across multiple sectors and jurisdictions.

Much has changed — new practice areas have been introduced, technology has transformed the way we work, and our footprint has expanded to serve a broader client base. And yet through it all, the Nockolds team spirit of collaboration, togetherness and the values that we hold have remained at the heart of the firm’s ethos.

This milestone also comes at a particularly special moment in our history: as we celebrate Peter’s retirement, we are also looking ahead to another major celebration — our 200 years anniversary. Few firms can claim such a rich and enduring legacy, and it is thanks to people like Peter that we continue to thrive nearly two centuries after our founding.

As we move toward this historic milestone, we remain grounded in the values that have guided us from the beginning: integrity, service, and commitment to our clients and our people. While we bid farewell to Peter, we also look to the future with confidence – the foundations laid by those who came before us will guide us as we continue to grow, adapt, and serve our clients with integrity and excellence.
