As someone who has served, it can take time to adjust to working in civilian employment. There is no set amount of time that it should take for you to feel ready.
My advice would be to start prepping as early as you can, so that you have something in place from the start, and you can add to it slow time e.g. CV.
Below are some tips that may help you:
Boost your skills: Think a about what courses you may wish to attend, remember that this can be done during your resettlement period if you are still serving. Civilian work experience can also be beneficial to gain insight into various industries and roles.
Highlight your Military Skills – Include all your transferrable and relevant military skills and experiences within your CV. There are many skills that you have that you may not recognise, so do have a think of these. If you haven’t already started your CV, take that first step and start!
LinkedIn – If you haven’t already, set up a LinkedIn account and start using this, connect with Veterans/ service leavers like yourself.
Seek Support – Professionals such as Nockolds HR are here to support you. We can help in many ways from Interview tips to CV writing and I have been there myself, so I understand the difficulties of transferring those Military skills that you have!
Attend career fairs – Networking opportunities are extremely valuable this time of looking for employment. By attending Career/ Job fairs can help you connect with potential Employers.
