Personal Injury Cold Calling and Spam Texting - Why it Has to Stop

I fully support proposals to stop the epidemic of cold calling by claims management companies that prey on personal injury victims.

The issue to be debated in the House of Lords today with the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) telling the Lords that the Financial Guidance and Claims Bill is a "missed opportunity to tackle the scourge of cold calling and spam texting".  

Figures suggest that 51million unsolicited calls and texts a year are made in the UK by claims management companies. 

APIL accurately describes cold calling as “exploitative, tasteless and intrusive". Solicitors are not allowed to do it for this very good reason but claims management companies continue to give the whole personal injury sector a bad name.

The number of complaints received by the Information Commissioner’s Office about accident claim nuisance calls and spam texts also continues to rise while a recent YouGov survey that found that 67% of Britons would support a cold calling ban. It simply has to stop.
