Ilott v Mison: Date Set for Long-Running Inheritance Dispute

Sep 30, 2016
The date for the final showdown of the long-running case of Ilott v Mison has been set. The appeal by Blue Cross, RSPB and RSPCA will be heard by the Supreme Court on 12th December 2016.

The case was headline news in July 2015 when the Court of Appeal awarded Heather Ilott, the adult daughter, a significant proportion of her late mother’s estate, despite her being financially independent and estranged from her mother for over 25 years, and notwithstanding her mother’s written wishes stating that she wanted her daughter to receive nothing.

The decision is seen by many as further erosion of the freedom to make whatever provision one might wish in their last will and testament. We look forward in anticipation of the Supreme Court’s decision and will be ready to update our clients as soon as the judgment is available.
