Drugs and Driving Laws Similar to Drink Driving Laws Come Into Force Today

From today, the police will be using equipment that measures amounts of illegal drugs in a person’s system if they suspect that a driver’s ability is impaired due to misuse. This is similar to drink driving in that for the first time the police have specific equipment that identifies quantities of different drugs. This includes legal and illegal drugs.

One police force has reportedly refused to use them. The testing strips have been used in different countries. What is guaranteed is that there will be work for defence solicitors as it is has been said that the most litigated area of criminal law to date is drink driving legislation. The stakes are high (no pun intended) as driving licences are seen as a necessity in the modern world that we live in.
