Children to be Given a Voice in Court

Feb 19, 2015

The government has announced that they are planning to introduce new law so that all children aged 10 and over have to be given the opportunity to talk to a mediator in situations where their parents are in mediation in relation to issues relating to that child. Also, in situations where their parents are at court about an issue which concerns that child, the child will have to be given the opportunity to talk to the Judge.

The idea is to enable children to feel that their wishes and feelings are heard and to express their views.

At Nockolds, we have a Family Law team of six lawyers who have a wealth of experience in dealing with cases relating to children. Two of our lawyers are also mediators. Zen Thompson is a solicitor and mediator who is qualified and experienced in meeting with children as part of the mediation process, which we call Child-Inclusive Mediation.

If you would like more information about this, please contact Zen on 01279 755 777.

Even if you are in mediation elsewhere, if your mediator is not able to offer this extra service, Zen can get involved for that part of the mediation.
