Landlords and Tenants Missing Deposit Dispute Deadlines

Jan 13, 2015

The Deposit Protection Service (DPS) has an independent adjudication scheme to resolve deposit disputes.

The purpose of the scheme is to avoid the parties having to embark upon costly litigation to recover the deposit. In order to be able to adjudicate both parties are asked to submit their evidence within 14 days. Staggeringly, DPS' figures show that both landlords and tenants are failing to submit their evidence on time and that 10.37% landlords and 15.77% of tenants fail to submit any evidence at all.

Failing to submit your evidence on time (or at all) can lead to a decision being automatically entered against you.
