Cohabiting couples - what if my partner dies?

Mar 19, 2014
A cohabiting partner can lose out if the other party dies without leaving a Will.  For married couples under the intestacy laws the surviving spouse will receive all or most of the estate.  With cohabiting couples if there is no Will the intestacy laws will be applied which mean that it is likely that the surviving partner will not inherit any of the estate which is not in joint names.

It is important for cohabiting couples to keep their Wills up-to-date to ensure that their estate is distributed according to their wishes.
