Family Mediation: Children
Zen saw a couple whose marriage had ended, and wanted help to resolve issues in relation to their children and the finances of their marriage. The couple wanted to start with a discussion about the arrangements for their children.
The parents were very sensitive to the needs of their children, who were both in secondary school. Zen give the parents the option of him meeting with their children to give their children a voice in the mediation.
Zen met with the children on a confidential basis and the children were able to share their wishes and feelings. The children gave Zen authority to share these with their parents who then were able to make arrangements which suited all concerned. The children felt that they had been listened to before any important plans were made, and the parents felt that they had given their children the opportunity to raise issues in a safe and confidential way, without the worry of upsetting their parents.
