Family - Why Mediate

Reasons to Mediate

Feb 14, 2017
Court proceedings are sometimes the only way to resolve issues. However, recent news items have highlighted some of the cost benefits of mediation. For example, a recent neighbour dispute in the news led to legal costs 75 times more than the amount in dispute, and a recent divorce in the news led to costs over 4 times more than the amount in dispute. In any negotiation, it is important to keep in mind a cost-benefit analysis, and look at the amount in dispute in comparison to the costs being incurred.

Mediation is usually very cost effective and the costs can be very carefully controlled, so that the costs incurred can be compared to what is in dispute.
