Today for the first time zero hours workers have some real protection. The Exclusivity Terms in Zero Hour Contracts (Redress) Regulations 2015 provide that the dismissal of a zero hour contract employee is automatically unfair if the principal reason is that he worked for another employer in breach of a contractual provision preventing him from doing so. It is also unlawful to treat a zero hours worker detrimentally for working for another employer.
Importantly there is no qualifying period for this protection.
