Family Justice Review

Today the Family Justice Review publish their interim report. It is looking promising for Grandparents? The review is expected to highlight the essential role that grandparents play however the recommendations are unlikely to be explicitly in relation to grandparents but the wider family in general and the importance of the whole family and children’s relationships with the whole extended family. Through mediation the mediators will be encouraged to speak to grandparents and engage with them making them part of the process and although the agreement at the end of mediation is not legally binding it can be used as evidence in court if contact is denied.

The focus of the review from listening to the Radio 4 interview this morning with David Norgrove who is heading the review, will remain children’s rights. This may include the recognition that children have a right to know their grandparents and be able to maintain a link and contact if this is in their best interest.  For more information and support for Grandparents, please visit the Grandparents Association
